Sahro Ramadhan is a sign of Allah's Great Mercy to His slaves. Allah SWT opens the gates of heaven, shuts the gates of hell, and shackles the devils during this month. In this blessed month Allah SWT rewards smaller acts of goodness much greater than in the other months. Thus, it is recommended to all Muslims to give more charity or sadaqa during this month of Ramadhan.

With the funding from Muslim Aid Australia, it is an opportunity for MYROi to share its blessings by implementing a Food Basket Distribution to 150 flood-affected grade 1 pupils of Muamad Elementary School in Brgy. Biniruan, Cotabato City on August 13, 2011. At least 50 MYROi members volunteered to help implement the activity. This kind of activity has become an annual programme of MYROi.

The activity started with the reading of the Holy Qur’an followed by opening remarks given by the school principal.  A message was given by one of the barangay officials. He thanked MYROi and the Muslim Aid for the support they have given to the school and the barangay. There was also a message given by an ustadz from the community. He stressed the importance and the rewards of giving sadaqa during the month of ramadhan. Message was given by Mr. Johnny Balawag, MYROi President. Johnny thanked the community for their warm welcome to MYROi. “It is not the quantity of food that matters but the noble intention of the donor is more important” said Johnny Balawag. There were also intermission numbers given by MYROi members by singing moro songs and nasheed. The food basket is composed of 3 kilograms of rice, 5 cans of sardines, 5 packs of noodles, 1 pack of coffee, and 1 kilogram of sugar.

The distribution process was conducted properly and orderly by the MYROi volunteers. All beneficiaries were able to receive their food basket. The beneficiaries were glad and thanked MYROi and MAA for receiving the food basket as this will help them a lot during this month of Ramadan. After the distribution, the group was able to thank the teachers and the barangay officials for their cooperation for the success of the activity.



The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) addressed his companions on the last day of Sha`ban, saying, "Oh people! A great month has come over you; a blessed month; a month in which is a night better than a thousand months; month in which Allah has made it compulsory upon you to fast by day, and voluntary to pray by night. Whoever draws nearer (to Allah) by performing any of the (optional) good deeds in (this month) shall receive the same reward as performing an obligatory deed at any other time, and whoever discharges an obligatory deed in (this month) shall receive the reward of performing seventy obligations at any other time. It is the month of patience, and the reward of patience is Heaven. It is the month of charity, and a month in which a believer's sustenance is increased. Whoever gives food to a fasting person to break his fast, shall have his sins forgiven, and he will be saved from the Fire of Hell, and he shall have the same reward as the fasting person, without his reward being diminished at all."
